What you said is very true. Plus I enjoyed the little story you had at the beginning. Being on social media has been pretty difficult lately and I've been laying it a little low for a while. Is X doing any better by the way? I deleted my account a while back but I'm thinking about rejoining.
Hi Liath! Thank you so much. Social media is really hard, sigh. But I’d rather keep an eye on it. So I don’t know if I would say X is doing better . . . certainly not from a rage and troll standpoint. Yet, there I am. Cheers.
Thank you for sharing, Joanne. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I was with you every word of the way, even down to Tom Jones - who I saw in concert about ten years ago. He is a fine performer who still finishes a performance with items of ladies' lingerie scattered at his feet.
I am very 'bah humbug' when it comes to paying for advertising, and I am sick and tired of being bombarded by so-called 'promotion experts' daily. I don't have funds to pay for regular promotional campaigns. That said, I broke the mould last weekend. I spent the princely sum of $31.60 to let a company called Fussy Librarian do their thing and spur along a 'loss leader' free promotion, and I had just shy of 1000 eBook downloads in one day. The final tally of 1,072 was enough for my book to bask in the glory of being top of the British and Irish Humour pile for 24 hours! Now, I hope some of those readers will find the time to review it.
Oh I love love love Tom Jones. I've seen him in concert . . . three times, I think? Glad you saw him too!!
I agree with avoiding *most promotion "experts." I will DM you regarding a couple of details, though. And congrats! That's a very good outcome on Fussy!
I agree with your comment about “ugly can follow you everywhere.” I know a lot of people have left X or deleted their social media, but the unsavory carries on regardless. People might think it’s a good thing to retreat into a bubble, but personally I think it’s better to keep an eye on what goes on. At least then we can try to counteract divisiveness.
That is a damn good point, Melanie. Thanks for making it. I guess I've decided to stay and fight, in my small way. I get really weird stuff on Facebook sometimes too, to be fair. Thank you so much for reading and commenting.

X still seems like the only way to market writing though lol. Blusky and Mastodon don't quite work the same (yet).
Yep those are not the same in my limited experience. Also having a terrible time gaining a following on Threads. Sooooo . . . .
I deleted my Threads lol. Wasn't a place for me.
Yeahhhhh . . . I'm a wee bit frustrated.

Thank you for your perspective Joanne and your advice.
I learned the hard way that most people are only out for themselves.
And in some cases I have been burnt by people I thought were friends.
So I have resigned myself that I will keep on writing with zero expectations of selling anything. When a sale comes along its a cause for celebration.
Thank you so much for your comments, Wendy.
A sale is always a cause for celebration.
That said, I do crave them.
